WHO MUST COMPLETE SAFESPORT TRAINING

SafeSport training is required for:

  • Coaches
  • Referees
  • Club administrators
  • Team managers
  • Any adult with regular contact with youth athletes

Who:

  • Our preferred Background Screen Provider is JDP

What:

  • Providing JDP Criminal package which includes Nationwide criminal search, sex offender in all US

states and territories, Safe Sport Data Base, and social security verification. 

When:

  • An application should be completed annually by our adult members - defined as anyone over

the age of 18 that may have unsupervised access or influence over a minor athlete 18 years or under.

  • Screens should be conducted annually with JDP or your chosen provider, if an applicant indicates

they have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor OR if our program chooses to screen any or all

members. This screening should take place prior to members participating in any sanctioned

activity.

Why:

  • A safe environment for the kids.
  • A safe environment for the volunteers.
  • Background Screening is one part of Futbol Association’s overall Risk Management Policy.

BACKGROUND CHECKS WITH JDP

Player safety isn’t a checkbox. It’s a responsibility.
Futbol Association partners with JDP as our preferred background screening provider to help clubs, leagues, and programs maintain safe, professional environments for youth athletes.

Background screening is a required part of our broader Risk Management Policy and applies to all adults with access to minors through Futbol Association-sanctioned activity.

WHO NEEDS A BACKGROUND CHECK

All adult members age 18 and over who may have unsupervised access to or influence over a minor athlete (18U) are required to complete a background check.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Coaches and assistant coaches
  • Team managers and administrators
  • League or club officials
  • Volunteers with direct player contact

If you’re around the kids, this applies to you.

 

WHAT THE JDP SCREENING INCLUDES

Futbol Association requires the JDP Criminal Package, which includes:

  • Nationwide criminal search
  • Sex offender search across all U.S. states and territories
  • SafeSport database screening
  • Social Security number verification

This package aligns with national youth-sports safety standards and supports consistent screening across all FA-sanctioned programs.

 

WHEN SCREENING IS REQUIRED

Background checks must be completed annually.

Screening must take place:

  • Prior to participation in any FA-sanctioned activity
  • When a member indicates a prior felony or misdemeanor conviction
  • When a club, league, or program chooses to screen some or all members

No clearance, no participation. Timing matters.

  • Supports accountability and professionalism across FA programs

HOW TO COMPLETE YOUR JDP BACKGROUND CHECK

Members currently complete screening directly through JDP.

To get started:

  1. Create an individual account with JDP
  2. Complete the required background check package
  3. Ensure screening is completed before participating in FA-sanctioned activities
